Thinking about adopting?

Bringing a cat or dog into your home can be a wonderful experience. Your new family member will need your patience, understanding, and love during this transition. Please remember that your new companion has been through many new experiences lately. Many of the dogs and cats that we rescue are from another state and have been abandoned, neglected, abused, or born in a shelter.

Since our mission is to pull animals from death row, many have been abandoned, neglected, or abused and we want to make sure their new home is indeed their forever home. Because of this, we have a thorough process we follow with every applicant. If everything checks out, we can set up a meet and greet to ensure it’s a good fit for both you, the animals, and any resident pets.

  1. Fill out an online application
  2. Vet/Landlord check (if applicable)
  3. Background check
  4. In person or virtual home visit
  5. Meet and greet between you, your resident pets (if applicable), and the foster

Applications are processed on a first come, first serve basis and are typically processed within 48 business hours. After an application has been processed, we’ll follow up to discuss any roadblocks and/or what the next steps are.

We typically communicate via email, so please watch your email and junk/spam folder if you’re waiting for a reply from us. If we can’t reach you after 24 hours have passed since we reached out, we will move on to the next applicant.

Adoption fees vary and are listed on each animal’s individual profile.

The adoption fee covers the following:

  • Distemper/Parvo vaccine (up to x3 for puppies)
  • Rabies vaccine
  • Spay or Neuter
  • Microchip w/lifetime registration

Most animals that we rescue have been abandoned, neglected, or abused and we wouldn’t be doing right by our animals if we didn’t do everything we could to set them up for success. Because of this, we require everyone to go through our application process.

Once you’ve been approved to adopt, you have 48 hours to pick up your new pet.

Safe Paws does not adopt out animals as Emotional Support Animals (ESA).

Safe Paws does not adopt out animals as service animals.

We always recommend giving your new member, and yourself, time to adjust. Remember, they are in an entirely new environment with new people, sights, smells, and potentially other animals and are scared. The general consensus is that it can take 3-4 weeks for a new pet to understand they are in their forever home and start showing their true selves.

However, if your new member simply isn’t working out, we’ll take the rescue back. No refunds will be given for returning a dog or cat that has been adopted from us.

Yes. We adopt fully vetted animals out of state but transport is solely the responsibility of the adopter. We do not ship animals.
